BSZ to TAE Upgrade
The BSZ40198 was released in 1998, a Cert IV qualification for individuals training in the VET Sector. This qualification was the predecessor to the Cert IV TAA40104 (2004). It was then superseded by the current TAE40110 (2010).
Due to the age of this qualification and the changes in the VET Sector although not compulsory it is important to keep your Training and Assessor qualification current.
The Australian Quality Training Framework in the essential conditions and standards states that it is a requirement that all trainers hold either:
- the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment OR
- be able to demonstrate equivalent competencies to the TAE40110 OR
- to work under the direct supervision of a person who has the above competency
A transition period until the end of June 2012 has been applied to allow the implementation of these guidelines. Although it should be understood that the immense effort required to effectively “demonstrate equivalent competence”, it is clear that the easiest way to meet this criteria is to ensure trainers have the latest TAE qualification.
Ultimately the simple fact is, you can continue to train with your BSZ qualification, if your RTO is happy to put in the effort to adequately “demonstrate equivalent competence”. The likelihood is though that many organisations will require you to upgrade your BSZ to the TAE.
If you hold the Cert IV BSZ40198 qualification now is the best time of the year to make the conversion, because the investment is 100% tax deductible.
The Investment for this upgrade is $590 (GST Free).
